On Tuesday 25 September, UWA’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dawn Freshwater hosted a celebration to recognise the contribution of our community of support.

This special (and fun!) evening in Winthrop Hall was dedicated to the hundreds of people who support students, graduates and the broader community in myriad ways.

The real value of community comes when people get involved. It’s not until you roll up your sleeves and start working with others to make a difference that you and your community see significant gains.

As a graduate, no matter where you live, you can make a difference in the lives of students by extending your hand as a mentor. You can help the next generation of alumni find their way to UWA by volunteering at Open Day, in schools outreach or giving to Alumni Fund scholarships for youth facing barriers. You can welcome new grads at Graduation. You can feed vital research by participating in studies or collaborating to commercialise new knowledge. And you can work with fellow grads, students, staff and researchers to create a better world through environmental sustainability and social inclusion.

No matter how you're making a positive impact, I'd like to thank you on behalf of all the people who share your passion and community spirit.
