Please tell us a bit about your journey since UWA

I graduated in March 2018 on a Saturday night and the morning after got on a one way flight to Melbourne. Moving to Melbourne was always something I wanted to do, and upon completing my studies I knew this was the right time to give it a go.

I started work as a coordinator at international media agency Carat (Dentsu Aegis Network). Whilst I was only there for a year, my team and the business were a huge part of what made my first year in Melbourne such a success.

I’ve always loved sports and wanted to work in sports marketing, so I kept my eyes open at the start of 2019 for marketing roles through any of the sports clubs based in Melbourne. In March, my current role at Collingwood Football Club came up – Marketing Communications Coordinator. I applied thinking I’d never get it, but alas I did!

How was your time at UWA important to your life today?

UWA was an important part of my journey as their flexibility allowed me to gain valuable work experience whilst studying, and be introduced to professionals in the industry I otherwise wouldn’t have met.

What’s your passion and how do you want to make a difference in the world?

I want people to understand that there’s so many ways to be involved with sports outside the playing group, and that being a player isn’t the only way to be paid for being around sports 24/7. I knew I wasn’t going be a professional athlete, but always loved sports and being involved with them which was how I got interested in sports marketing. There’s coaching, management, science, community and so much more!

What is the most interesting aspect of your career? Where could it go from here?

Working in marketing, I essentially service the rest of the business in all promotional efforts. For me, the most interesting part is learning from people in these different areas of the business, such as Partnerships or Community, and how they are integral to the success of a large sports club like Collingwood.

I’m hoping to learn as much as I can from the business, specifically brand in sports. I like to think I could evolve into a brand strategist, so that’s where I’m hoping this role can take me.
